Senior Pastor
Rev. Troy Ray – I am a third generation native of Sanford, Florida. I graduated from Seminole High School there, Class of ’77. I received my baccalaureate degree in Bible, with honors, from Central Bible College, Springfield, Missouri, in 1983. I entered military service that same year as a PFC in the U.S. Army and served a twenty-year career in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Major.  Attending the Officer’s Candidate School, I earned my commission as a second lieutenant in 1987 and served in various Infantry assignments until I became an Army Chaplain in 1997.
I worked for a dozen years in purchasing for the Aerospace industry, before going to Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky, where I earned a Master of Divinity degree in 1999.  I am ordained as an elder in the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church. While in seminary, I served as pastor of Gravel Switch United Methodist Church…in the thriving metropolis of …Gravel Switch, Kentucky, birthplace of Minnie Pearl!
I served as Executive Director of Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) from October, 2003 to August 2015.  HUM’s ministry is to prevent homelessness among very low income people and to intervene on behalf of homeless men, women and children, of which there are over 5,000 in Volusia County.
Prior to serving at HUM, I served as pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Seville, Florida (Volusia County) for four years, interrupted twice by calls to Army active duty following the events of September 11, 2001.
In August, 2015, Cindy and I followed God’s leading to move to Portland, Oregon and serve a ministry to African orphans called Open Arms International. Our work there was primarily in support of the children’s village in Eldoret, Kenya, where we were fortunate enough to visit during our tenure.
Cindy, Troy’s wife, born and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts, received her degree in Sales & Marketing from Northeastern University and worked in that industry for Bristol Meyers Squibb, Pan Am Airlines and other notable businesses. She received her Master of Clinical Psychology degree from the University of Central Florida and is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida. Cindy worked in private practice as a Counselor in Daytona Beach until our move to Portland.
Troy has three grown children, one grandson – Jake – who is three and one brand new granddaughter, Liberty Grace,
