Caribbean Café – April 2007 The Dominican Mission Team transported us to the Caribbean Café to raise money for supplies to take with them on their trip in June. The colorful decorations added a Caribbean charm throughout the evening. We were treated to a delicious assortment of coffees and desserts and entertained by the fabulous talent show that featured readings, comedy, and music. Several members of the team and others from church donated goods and services for a highly successful silent auction. The team raised more than $1,200 from admission tickets, the silent auction, and other donations. |

Cuba Mission Trip – March 2007 On March, 19, 2007 nine members from Lake Shore United Methodist Church returned from a 10-day visit to our sister church in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. Pastor Tom and Glen Drummond, at the invitation of Bishop Ricardo Pereira, addressed the 10th General Conference of the Cuban Methodist Church in Havana. During the visit the group enjoyed was treated to a day trip to the beach, a stroll through Old Havana and the Capitol building, a tour of two of the old forts, the 20 meter Christ overlooking the bay of Havana, a trip to neighboring province Pinar del Río to swim in a waterfall, a horse back ride, and a tour of an orchid garden. The visit was a treat not only for our team but for their Cuban counterparts. They generally cannot afford to participate in these activities, and for many of the activities, they are not permitted to participate by law. The most exhilarating experience was the worship with our Cuban brothers and sisters. The team participated in all worship services and visited most of the 14 missions our sister church attends. Pastor Tom and Glen preached at Sunday services; and other team members, Christopher Drummond and Sarah Fuller, also had the opportunity to share with the congregation. The Holy Spirit moved mightily during the visit, and by all accounts everyone was very much blessed. The greatest blessings are yet to come for this covenant. Stay tuned...” |

Youth Week Reveals Strengths This year the youth squeezed in a lot of fun and work into Youth Week events during the last week of the summer vacation. They had a scavenger hunt, went tubing on the Itchetucknee River, played messy games, and went to Adventure Landing Water Park. They also worked hard to refurbish the church playground. And every night they had dinner and worshipped together. We are so proud of the love and care our youth demonstrate for one another, of their desire to welcome and get to know new youth who are coming to the activities, and their willingness to work hard to help others. Many of the youth worked so hard on the playground that they could hardly walk the next day. They were so excited about the work they were doing—throughout the work day, they would make comments like, “I wish I could be here when the little kids see this for the first time” or “I hope the church will like what we’ve done.” Our youth acted selflessly to benefit others. The youth are eager to be a part of Lake Shore, and they are hungry to know God. It is a blessing to have such wonderful young people as part of our church family. |
